"I just wanted to let you know how exciting yesterday was for us. I was so impressed with all of your children. You truly run a first class operation. I also must humbly say that I am very proud of Evie. It it difficult to believe what she has accomplished at almost 3 1/2! I want to share some pictures. I am quite confident that there will be many more grading ceremonies but I feel like there will be none like the first!"

"Tenchi Karate School is more than just a traditional Okinawan karate training facility; it’s a group of people who truly care about the personal growth and success of each individual that walks in the door of the dojo. The concern for each student is apparent not just from the parental aspect, but from the student-Sensei perspective as well. The martial arts experience and the care to preserve the traditional values of Nahate Goju Ryu are paramount in the dojo and shouldn’t be taken lightly, but the fun and enjoyment from the students and Sensei’s is a blast!"

"My experience at the Dojo has been good because I have learned lots about Self discipline. Also it's nice to be able to know how to defend your self if needed."
~ Rebecca Gwin, Student ~
In karate I learn many things like the history of karate ,how to defend myself, and how to keep my body healthy. Also, I learn about respect and discipline.

As a parent, I am so pleased how this experience has enriched my children. Not only have they learned the various techniques and disciplines of karate, they have gained confidence, discipline and respect for self and others. Of course, it is a great way for them to keep mentally and physically fit. The staff is so dedicated to each student and serve as great mentors. We are very fortunate to have this experience in our community.

"Having three children active at Tenchi Family Karate has provided immediate benefits to the whole family. I have watched their self-confidence grow and their leadership skills flourish as they have fun. In each session, they are constantly encouraged to grow, learn, and lead others. Not only will these skills last a lifetime, they have increased each child's quality of life. Their favorite is trying to hit David with sticks!"

"Over 30 years ago I began a journey to learn self defense. My instructor was Kyoshi Gary Shull, the senior student of Sensei Jimmy Logue (9th Dan Oyata Shin Shu Ho) who studied Ryukyu Karate under Takai Seiyu Oyata in Makiminata, Okinawa in 1963. Unfortunately, my journey was interrupted and due to school and family obligations and I lost touch with my instructor. I can still remember Sensei Gary saying, "Come, I show you trick". Now, 30 years later Sensei Mickey Brock and everybody at Tenchi Karate have undertaken a great challenge; to teach an old dog some new tricks. The very first class I attended, I recognized many traits from the Okinawan karate that I learned in my younger years....home at last. Please come join us in our journey."

"My first day at karate was a little nerve racking. I didn’t know what to do or how to react. As the class went on I started to feel more and more comfortable. This is thanks to Sensei Brock and the others who train here. The students and teachers here treat each other more like family than classmates. The support and hard work makes this dojo something special. You will be pushed mentally and physically and will walk out the door each time you train feeling able to accomplish any task in front of you. It will become a lifestyle. You will learn that karate is more than just prearranged movements and sparring."

"I have had the honor and privilege to visit and do seminars and interact with the students of Sensei Brock at Tenchi Karate. Sensei Brocks dojo is one of the finest organized and equipped dojo that I have ever seen in my years of travel. His program offerings insure that each student gets the finiest training available. The students have a very high degree of respect and courtesy and are devoted to their karate training. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone who is looking outstanding instruction. And to parents; Sensei Brock is a devoted and caring instructor who will always lead youth on a straight path for a better adult life.

"I can't say enough wonderful things about Sensei Brock and the instructors at Tenchi Family Karate. Not only does my son enjoy Karate and look forward to each class, but he was able to have the most memorable birthday party ever! Tenchi Family hosted his 7th Birthday party and it was amazing! It was so well organized and my family and friends loved the warm and courteous welcome. I recieved several phone calls after the party from parents telling me how much fun the party was and that their children could not stop talking about it! My birthday boy loved it too and if you ask him the best part he will say, " the sword". I don't want to give away the surprise so I won't go into detail. Thank you again Sensei Mickey for making us feel like family and instilling life long values in my child and all of the other students!"

"My name is Jake young and I’m 8 years old. I started karate 3 years ago, it is a lot of fun. I think it will help me if I ever get in danger. It’s teaching me obedience and respect. My sensei is very kind and I look forward to each class. I can’t wait to get my black belt."

"My name is Danny Cochran. I am a pastor of a church, but when I am at our Karate
School I am a student just like everyone else. Almost 2 years ago I was looking for a type of exercise program to loose a few pounds and I called the numbers that you will find on the web site. I was surprised to talk to Sensei Brock. Mr. Mickey Brock has been a family friend for years and the Brock family is a well respected name in the community for longer than I can remember. So I sat in on a session and believed it might help me. IT HAS! There are too many benefits to name them all but here are a few: Strength, Stamina, Flexibility, Focus, Awareness, and Reactions. All have greatly improved. Breathing. My lungs and airways are noticeably clearer. At a spiritual level, my faith has been a help in karate and karate has been a help to my faith, with focus and meditation. Also, Sensei Laura Tolliver and Sensei Brock are very professional, with all activities supervised. The student family and their support have far surpassed my expectations. Self Defense is something you hope you will never need. The more you learn about it and how to properly use it, the more it gives you confidence that you could defuse a violent situation. In the day we live in, it could come in handy. Parents, I highly recommend this school. I have personally witnessed the young people reaching a HIGHER level of respect and discipline with a good nature. My only regret is that I did not start younger....p.s. I have lost a few pounds too!

It’s difficult to determine my favorite part of my kids and I taking karate at Tenchi Family Karate. As both a parent, and a student myself, the first thing (since it is a school) is the incredible quality of instruction we all receive. The teachers are world class and capable of not only conveying their knowledge of karate, but their passion for it as well, to all ages and skill levels. I am grateful to both Sempai David and Sensei Laura for providing active and involved role models for my sons and daughter; and both knowledge and encouragement for myself as a more “vintage” student. Sensei Brock’s love of karate is contagious. He has the gift of all great teachers or coaches, the ability to help you do more, go farther and become more than you ever thought possible. The journey I have begun towards black belt has already helped me become a better Dad, friend and person. No matter the stresses involved in my busy days, there is a sense of coming home when I step through the dojo door. Sensei Brock, the other instructors and the students make me feel Tenchi Family Karate is truly... family!
